Julie Busse

EDITOR

Julie Busse (she/her) is an Emmy-nominated film editor with a dance-informed editing style that prioritized storytelling through movement. She specializes in nature film, dance film, and art cinema.

In 2009 Julie graduated with honors from DePauw University in Studio Art, and she also studied abroad at the Glasgow School of Art. Upon graduation, she co-founded and directed Low Road Gallery in Greencastle, Indiana, which showcased contemporary Indiana artwork and held popular artist talks and art events.

Experimental film was the defining theme of Julie’s career in the 2010s, and she exhibited video and performance artwork for film festivals and art galleries from New York to Los Angeles. She was awarded artist residencies at the Experimental Television Center in New York and SANDWICH, the studio of Kohei Nawa, in Japan. In 2013 she graduated with her MFA in Film from The University of Colorado at Boulder.

During her degrees and years following, she filmed deer in Japan, toured nature-themed experimental films, and presented a multi-year project based on Audubon's "Birds of America" throughout the United States. Concurrently, she supported her studies through her role as an illustrator for the novelty footwear company FBF Originals, and designed socks for major licensed organizations such as the NBA, NFL, NCAA, National Parks, MGM Properties, and many more.

Building upon video work she created for the CU Boulder Department of Theater and Dance, In 2014 Julie began working with Dancing Camera in New York City, a video production company that specializes in films for dance and the arts. In collaboration with Executive Director Nic Petry, Julie created documentaries, dance films, music videos, sizzles, and trailers for organizations such as The Guggenheim Museum, The New York Public Library, The Juilliard School, National Dance Institute, American Ballet Theatre, The Denver Art Museum, The Cunningham Foundation, The Rauschenberg Foundation, and others. She worked closely with The Yard, a dance residency and performance center, as the video and marketing senior staff member. She had the great fortune to work for pioneers of the dance field such as Abraham In Motion, Dance Theater of Harlem, Ragamala, Music From The Sole, Ephrat Asherie Dance, Les Ballet Afrik, and many others.

From 2016-2017 she supplemented her work with Dancing Camera by accepting a Visiting Artist assistant professorship at Indiana University, where she taught experimental film and digital art. In 2017 she took a hiatus from New York to film and edit for Rapt Productions, a dance film company in San Francisco, California.

In 2018 she became Dancing Camera’s lead editor and served as it’s local director in Denver, Colorado. In 2020, she was the editor and screenwriter for Isolation To Creation, a four part docuseries which followed six artist groups during the pandemic in the first dance bubble residencies in the United States, created by Works & Process at the Guggenheim. Isolation To Creation was hosted by PBS and AllArts, was selected for the San Francisco Dance Film Festival, and was featured in a special presentation by Dance Films Association and Gibney Dance. In 2021 she was thrilled to join Think Lemonade Productions!

An important influence to Julie’s editing style is her lifelong relationship to classical music. Born into a large family of musicians and music teachers, Julie has read music as long as she has read words. She primarily plays viola, and has been a member of the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, The Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, the Boulder Symphony, and the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra.

To Julie, the experience of creating films for the arts is in harmony with making nature film, and her developed eye for movement and complex narratives gives her a unique perspective into how non-verbal storytelling can artfully unfold. Being in nature continues to be a large part of her life, and she spends every available opportunity hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing with her dog in the mountains around her home in Denver, Colorado.

Angel Morris

EDITOR / FILMMAKER

Angel is a nonbinary editor and filmmaker based in San Diego, California. They began their editing journey as a kid, stitching together Disney films to make music videos and creating little skits with their friends. They developed a love for telling stories through visuals that snowballed into what would eventually become their passion.

Originally creating content for marketing, Angel worked both freelance and agency positions to produce for retail, nonprofit, and more. Eventually, Angel transitioned into cutting for natural history and wildlife, returning to a dream they’ve had since they were young.

After spending almost ten years editing for advertisements and commercials, Angel decided to chase their passion to cut for documentaries. They aim to work on films that make an impact in wildlife conservation and beyond. Although Angel’s skill set spans many areas of film production, editing is what brings them the most joy, as it’s where all the pieces of the puzzle are brought together to make the story.

Angel’s had the opportunity to work on projects for companies like Warner Brothers, The West Valley Symphony, House of Somos Surf Resort, and more. In August of 2021, they were accepted into the Jackson Wild Summit Fellowship. Soon after, they were invited onto the Think Lemonade team.

One of Angel’s goals is to diversify the community of documentary filmmakers. As someone who is a part of the LGBTQ+ community and identifies as nonbinary, it is rare for them to see people who look like them in the industry. They hope to eventually inspire others who are like them to chase after their aspirations so that more stories can be heard, and more work can be done to take care of our planet and those on it.
